One of my absolutely favorite plants is the passion flower vine (passiflora). According to Wikipedia there are aproximately 500 species of this flowering plant. I only have experience growing the vine type. The passion flower can also produce a fruit – known as the passion fruit – which is frequently used in juice mixes. This [...]

Who feeds the birds? I sure do – and I’ve never given it more than a second thought, believing I was doing my part to keep them fat and healthy through tough times. Yet scientists have recently concluded that feeding your backyard feathered friends can lead to profound evolutionary changes. Read more in this article [...]

Self Propelled Flowers

Especially this variety. I don’t think its a monarch, orange/brown color wasn’t quite as bright and no defining black lines.

Buzz Buzz Little Bee

Is he licking his lips or cleaning his feet? You tell me. Ever wonder how a bee actually makes that buzzing noise? A bee actually makes the air vibrate. Bees can buzz when their wings are moving or still. Some believe it is caused by the vibration of the muscles in the thorax. If you [...]

Beauty and the Grasshopper

How awful is it that I can’t even remember where I captures this little guy? Is it even a grasshopper or a katydid? He was enjoying exploring his flower and was very kind to pause for a picture. Ever try grasshopper pie? Sounds delicious, but I’ve never actually baked such a dessert completely from scratch [...]
